While making a sales call I decided to use one of the [Handout] cards to write a few words of thanks to the woman at the front desk who was always very pleasant when I visited. After reading the card, she began to choke up and told me "no one had ever done such a nice thing before" and thanked me several times. A few days later when I returned, she went out of her way to locate an engineer I needed to speak with. Small card, big impact.

After having a wonderful meal at a local restaurant with friends, I wrote a message of appreciation on one of the Handout Cards and gave it to our server with his gratuity. After a few minutes, he returned to the table to tell us that the acknowledgement "made his evening" and after showing the owner the card was asked to display the card in the front entrance window of the restaurant. An unexpected and wonderful response.

I have given several [Handout] cards to our military men and women. I write out a few cards in advance with words of appreciation and carry them in my purse so that when the opportunity arises, I have one to give. I let them know how grateful I am for their service and how much safer I feel because of it. They are always pleasantly surprised, sometimes stunned, but always thankful. Even their family member's display pride from the appreciation offered. The other interesting part though is the response from the people around me who add their words of appreciation also.

Last evening I revisited a favorite restaurant. We just went in for coffee. The lady I had given one of my first cards to remembered me and came up to tell she still had the card and that it meant so much to her. I thought that was so neat, one, she remembered the card, two, she remembered who had given it to her and three, she was as good as the night I originally gave it to her. Life sure hands out some surprises, some most gracious!
